Catholic Charities

The primary purpose of Catholic Charities is to provide human services to the nine-county area of the Diocese of Orlando. Its aim is to reduce poverty, support families and empower communities. No one is denied service due to inability to pay. Among its many services they have available are a family assistance program, a food pantry and a counseling service. Adult Day Care Center

Is there a senior citizen in your family or neighborhood who is looking for socialization and interesting activities with people their own age? Saint Mary Magdalene Adult Center, in Altamonte Springs, provides seniors a safe environment with stimulating activities. Rates are reasonable. Carmelite Order Invitation

The Carmelite Order (an association of Catholic lay persons) at Saints Peter & Paul Church, Winter Park, invites you to its monthly meetings in the parish hall. The meetings are held every first Saturday of the month and are preceded by the rosary and Mass, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 12:00 noon. Seamstresses needed! The Diocese of Orlando Mission Office needs volunteers to cut and/or sew simple uniforms for the children studying at the schools in our Sister Diocese in the Dominican Republic. The fabric and pattern are provided and only your time and talent are needed. This is an opportunity to help with the missions and not leave the comfort of your own home. Circle of Support for Grief

An ongoing group offering information, practical help, and emotional support to cope with grief meets at the VITAS Office, 5151 Adanson Street, Orlando. The group meets Friday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. It is open to the public and offered at no charge. Participants are required to register in advance by calling Maureen at 407-691-4549.

Volunteers Needed!

The Office for the Farmworker Ministry in Apopka provides tutoring for middle and high school students in the Apopka area. The after-school programs are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays. The success of these programs depends on volunteers who are able to give at least two hours a week to tutor reading, math, or other subjects. Training and support are provided by the ministry. Grief Support Group

A support group meets Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Aloma Methodist Church, 3045 Aloma Avenue, Winter Park. Sponsored by VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, this is offered to anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one so they may cope with the loss and adapt to changes in daily life. Mission Office Seeking Volunteers

The Mission Office of the Diocese of Orlando is seeking two long-term missioners to work and minister in our sister diocese in the Dominican Republic. One of the positions is for a supervisor of our Catholic schools, and the other is for a catechist to establish a total faith formation program. Candidates need to be fluent in Spanish, have a Bachelor’s degree, able to walk in mountainous terrain, and can commit to two years of service. A living stipend, travel expenses, and health and life insurance will be provided.
