Fr. Roberto Marquez
I offer you an introduction to Father Marquez who is appointed Parochial Administrator of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish, effective October 24. Father Marquez was born and raised in Miami to Pedro and Lucy Marquez. He has one younger sister. He was former Disney services manager for eighteen years prior to entering the seminary. He attended Saint Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach and was ordained to the Priesthood on May 29, 2021. His first assignment was as parochial vicar of Saint James Cathedral, Orlando.
Father Marquez learned to love others at home. The Cuban American frequently dropped what he was doing to help in the family’s restaurants in Miami where he learned responsibility, organization, teamwork, and working with others. “The spirit of prayer definitely was alive in my family,” he remarked.
It was a big step when he moved away from his family to Orlando. He said of the time, “It was a time that it was just me and Christ- being able to rebuild our relationship and find my path, to see that it’s Christ who fulfills me and who I need to bring into all of my choices and decisions.” When he began praying, the priesthood came into clear focus.
One day, he walked into the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe. Homesick and lonely he suddenly felt “it’s home”. “All my fears, all my anxiety kind of fell away, they started to disappear,” he recalled. “As those feelings of priesthood came into my life…. I felt my heart fuller, and fuller, and fuller,” he said smiling.

El Padre Márquez nació y creció en Miami, hijo de Pedro y Lucy Márquez. Tiene una hermana menor. Fue ex gerente de servicios de Disney durante dieciocho años antes de ingresar al seminario. Asistió al Seminario Regional de San Vicente de Paúl en Boynton Beach y fue ordenado sacerdote el 29 de mayo de 2021. Su primera asignación fue como vicario parroquial de la Catedral de St. James, Orlando.
El padre Márquez aprendió a amar a los demás en casa. El cubanoamericano frecuentemente dejaba lo que estaba haciendo para ayudar en los restaurantes de la familia en Miami, donde aprendió responsabilidad, organización, trabajo en equipo y trabajo con otros. “El espíritu de oración definitivamente estaba vivo en mi familia”, comentó.
Fue un gran paso cuando se mudó de su familia a Orlando. Dijo de la época: “Fue un momento en que solo éramos Cristo y yo, poder reconstruir nuestra relación y encontrar mi camino, ver que es Cristo quien me llena y a quien necesito incluir en todas mis elecciones y decisiones”. Cuando comenzó a orar, el sacerdocio se centró claramente.
Un día, entró en la Basílica del Santuario Nacional de María, Reina del Universo. Nostálgico y solo, de repente sintió que “es su hogar”. “Todos mis miedos, toda mi ansiedad desapareció, comenzaron a desaparecer”, recordó. “A medida que esos sentimientos del sacerdocio llegaron a mi vida… Sentí mi corazón más lleno, y más lleno, y más lleno”, dijo sonriendo.
